RELATIONSHIPS
Going Places... Together
Monday, April 04, 2016WHAT DOES IT MEAN WHEN THE BIBLE TALKS ABOUT DIFFERENT YOLKS? I AM SEEING A GUY THAT IS A BAPTIST, AND WELL, I’M CATHOLIC, AND HE STATED TO ME THAT HE WAS CONCERNED ABOUT OUR RELATIONSHIP BECAUSE OF OUR RELIGIOUS DIFFERENCES! HE THEN MENTIONED ABOUT THE BIBLE WHERE IT TALKS ABOUT THE DIFFRENT YOLKS BUT DID NOT EXPLAIN. I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT HE IS TRYING TO SAY. WHAT DO DIFFERENT RELIGIONS HAVE TO DO WITH LOVING ONE ANOTHER? IF POSSIBLE, I WOULD LIKE FOR A BAPTIST PREACHER TO EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT THE DIFFERENCES IN A RELATIONSHIP HAVE TO DO WITH LOVING ONE ANOTHER? WHAT IS THE INTERPRETATION OF THE DIFFERENT YOLKS IN THE BIBLE?Sincerely,
SOMEONE THAT REALLY LOVES HER PARTNER REGARDLESS OF THE DIFFERENT RELIGIONS
Dear Someone That Really Loves,
You aren’t going to get an answer from a Baptist preacher here (we are just christians at AYP), but the Bible agrees with your Baptist boyfriend on this one. God says that we should never be “unequally yoked” (2 Cor 6:14). Our relationship with God needs to be the central focus of our life (Matt 22:37-38). Marriage, which is the potential end result of your romantic relationship, is the most intimate union this side of heaven (Eph 5:31). Marriage to someone that doesn’t have the same values as you is compared to two oxen being yoked to the same wagon with each oxen pulling the cart in a different direction – it will never work! Solomon is the great example of this. Solomon was the wisest man on the earth (1 Kgs 4:30-34). Yet, even with all his wisdom, Solomon’s idol-worshipping wives tore his heart away from serving God (1 Kgs 11:4). If it can happen to Solomon, it can happen to anyone.
But here is the bright side! Catholicism isn’t following the Bible… BUT the Baptists aren’t either. You can tell your boyfriend that he isn’t doing what God says. Both Catholicism and the Baptist denomination are man-made religions that only take pieces of the Bible and disregard the rest of It. It is only when we accept the whole Bible that we can be pleasing to God (Ps 119:160). The world is full of religions that are leading people astray with false teachings. God tells us that there is only one pattern for His church, and that pattern can be found in the Bible (Eph 4:4-6). God is not the author of the religious confusion that we see in the world today (1 Cor 14:33). If you and your boyfriend want to get on the same page spiritually, we would be ecstatic to help teach you about the church of the Bible and how to find one in your area. Gifts That Stop Giving
Tuesday, March 29, 2016Can a person just ask for the gifts of the spirit or claim them? How do you know if they are real?Sincerely,
Trying To Be Gifted
Dear Trying To Be Gifted,
Real gifts of the Holy Spirit allowed people to perform real miracles. In this context, a ‘miracle’ is defined as an act that is obviously supernatural in origin. Examples of miracles are: raising people from the dead (Acts 9:40-41), healing leprosy (Lk 5:13), speaking in foreign languages without being taught (Acts 2:4-11), etc. The gifts of the Holy Spirit were given to the apostles (Acts 2:1-4), and the apostles were able to pass on these gifts to others by laying their hands on them (Acts 8:18). The apostles were the only ones with the ability to pass on the gifts. Therefore, when the last person that the last living apostle laid hands on died… the gifts ceased to exist. God intended for this to happen.
The miraculous gifts of the Holy Spirit were needed to spread the Gospel in the beginning. Miracles were used as a proof that what the disciples said was truly God’s Word (Acts 8:6). Jesus’ miracles proved that His preaching was true (Acts 2:22). However, now we have a written account of both the miracles and the teachings, and we believe through the Bible, which records those miracles (Jhn 20:30-31). The apostle Paul warned that eventually the miracles would cease because we would have the perfect Word of God (1 Cor 13:8-10). You cannot receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit any longer. Now, the only gift that the Holy Spirit offers us is salvation – and that is more than sufficient.
Bundle(s) Of Joy
Monday, March 21, 2016Is there any where in the Bible that dictates how many children to have?Sincerely,
Three or Twelve?
Dear Three or Twelve,
No, the amount of children that a married couple has together is a matter of personal preference. God never stipulates how many children a couple can (or cannot) have. There are examples of faithful married couples having no children (such as Hannah and Elkanah – 1 Sam 1:1-2), and there are examples of faithful couples having a dozen children (like Jacob’s family – Gen 35:22).
Holy Spirit Baptism
Friday, March 11, 2016Doesn't the Bible (or Jesus) clearly state you must receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit in order to be saved or enter heaven? If so, how do I receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit?Sincerely,
Want To Be Holy
Dear Want To Be Holy,
You do not need to be baptized in the Holy Spirit in order to be saved. In fact, the book of Acts gives a clear example of a group of people who were christians but hadn’t been baptized in the Holy Spirit (Acts 8:12-16). The baptism of the Holy Spirit was a miraculous event that endowed people with miraculous abilities. It happened to the apostles on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4), and it happened to Cornelius and his household when the first Gentiles were preached to (Acts 10:44-45). Holy Spirit baptism doesn’t save you; water baptism is what saves you (1 Pet 3:21, Mk 16:16). In fact, when Cornelius and his household were filled with the Holy Spirit, Peter said that they still needed to be baptized in water (Acts 10:46-48). Holy Spirit baptism was a temporary miraculous gift used to spread the Gospel in the first century before we had the completed Bible, but now that we have a perfect Bible, there is no longer any need for miracles (1 Cor 13:8-10). If you want to have your sins forgiven, you need to be baptized in water. Read “What Must I Do To Be Saved” for further details.
A Much-Wanted Child
Monday, March 07, 2016My question is in regard to taking fertility medicine to conceive a child. I have a hormonal imbalance that makes me have difficulty conceiving. I took medicine after trying to conceive for over a year. It worked for me, and I had a beautiful son. I feel like God sent him to me, and he is a blessing, but in the back of my mind, I wonder if God thinks it was okay for me to take the medicine to have him. I just want to know... is it okay to take fertility drugs to conceive a child in the eyes of the Lord?Sincerely,
Baby Boom
Dear Baby Boom,
God condones taking medication for our health problems. Paul told Timothy to take some wine for his stomach (1 Tim 5:23). The sick were told to have the elders pray over them and anoint them with oil – oil was used as a medicine (Jas 5:14).
We know that medicine is perfectly appropriate when you are sick. Though some feel uncomfortable using fertility drugs (and you should never do anything that goes against your conscience – 1 Tim 1:5), the argument can be made that fertility medication is just like using aspirin or any other medical technique to improve human health and body function. Enjoy the blessing of your baby boy, and thank God for him (Col 4:2).
